Lost Our Home Pet Foundation

I was poking around on Facebook this weekend and came across a group, Lost Our Home Pet Foundation that peaked my interest.  Being an animal lover, former rescue volunteer and adoption counselor at the Washington Animal Rescue League, and the proud mom of my rescued Shih Tzu, Remi, I wanted to learn more about who they are and what they do.  I took a look at their Facebook page,  their website, Lost Our Home.org, then contacted the Founder, Jodi Polanski, so I could share information about this wonderful organization with you. 

WHO THEY ARE:
A nonprofit group of real estate professionals who rescue pets left behind due to foreclosures or other financial hardship.

WHAT THEY DO:
Our mission is to be a source for real estate professionals and others when they encounter a pet in need. To rescue, rehome, and advocate for pets that have been abandoned or left behind due to foreclosure or eviction. To provide options for families to keep their pets if hard economic times are making it difficult to keep or care for their pet, and to promote spay and neutering.

HOW THEY HELP PETS:
Rescue Aid:
We rescue pets that have been abandoned in homes, give them vet care, love and a new chance at life with a family who will never leave them.

Financial Aid:
We provide vet care for non-routine procedures if a pet is in pain. There is a qualifying process for this program.

Food Bank:
We provide pet food, leashes, collars, litter, treats etc so there is no cost to keep a pet with their family.

Foster Program:
We provide temporary fostering (up to 90 days) for pets after a foreclosure or eviction until other arrangements can be made so pet owners do not need to turn their pet into a shelter.

Adoptions:
We help people find new homes for pets if the pet owner needs to downsize or after a foreclosure or eviction by posting them on our website and 3 other rescue websites to be seen by thousands of potential adopters.

HOW YOU CAN HELP THEM HELP PETS:
Volunteer:
Volunteers do everything from administrative type help from their homes to helping at adoption events or transporting pets.

Foster:
Care for pets until we can find a permanent loving home. We are currently looking for Phoenix area residents to be Foster Parents. We need people to open their heart and home to dogs and cats that have been left behind. A foster parent temporarily takes in the pet as their own, loves the pet, helps the pet adapt to a new home and takes care of all their daily needs etc. As a foster parent, we can provide you with dog/cat food, litter, etc if needed for the daily care of the pet, and we will cover all medical expenses. We also get donations of pet beds, food bowls, toys etc and if you need any, we would be happy to give them to you. You will also talk to potential adopters to let them know the personality of the pet so they can decide if the pet is right for their family. Foster parents are the most important element of this organization. Without foster parents to care for the pets, we cannot rescue any.

Adopt one of the many loving pets that have previously been abandoned or neglected or given up because of no fault of their own.
