Every 10 years the US Census is sent out to count to count the number of people in the US. The 2010 US Census is due to arrive in your mailbox in March.
Why is it important to fill out the Census? It is no secret that we have experienced severe budget cuts to programs due to lack of funds in the great State of Arizona. For each person counted in Phoenix, the City of Phoenix will receive $400 in Federal and State Funding. These funds will be used for community services including fire stations, bus service, libraries, job training, senior services and youth programs.
In addition to the valuable funds, the count determines the number of Congressional seats for Arizona, draws state legislative districts and helps guide the boundaries of Phoenix City Council Districts.
Worried about confidentiality? No personal information revealed in the Census is shared with any other government agency or organization. Census workers are sworns to a lifetime oath of secrecy and can go to jail if any Census information is disclosed.
So do your part to secure funds for Arizona! When the short 10 question form arrives next month, fill it out, mail it back in the pre-paid postage envelope and your done!
